Overview
MGF (Mechano Growth Factor) is an endogenous peptide splice variant of IGF-1 produced locally in muscle fibers in response to mechanical damage (exercise, injury). It acts locally at the site of production, activating muscle satellite (stem) cells and initiating the repair and hypertrophy cascade. Unlike PEG-MGF, the native form has a very short half-life (minutes) and is rapidly degraded in the bloodstream, making its action highly localized. Research has shown MGF expression peaks within hours of resistance exercise in young individuals but is blunted with aging.
